These points are paraphrased from pages 94 and 108 of Dr. Tannen's book. They are somewhat tangential to the point of this presentation. However, they do suggest gender-based differences that may be contexually and motivationally relevant to the effective management of records.
Could it be, for example, that men are more likely to embellish upon the truth in public, whereas women may be more prone to do so in private?... That women don't want to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth to friends in private for fear of diminishing intimacy?... That men don't want to tell the truth in public for fear of losing face?...
Answers to these questions are beyond the scope of this presentation, but they do set an interesting tone within which the challenge of records management must be addressed.
